This is the closest beach to my house yet its one of the harder ones to get a good painting of. Its a bit of a hike and you can often be hit with the elements wind and sun. I'll probably never attempt to do one this big on those bluffs again.

There should be more buildings like the Santa Barbara Courthouse. The centerpiece is the huge arch and sunken garden. The designer must of had a good understanding of the local climate to create such a harmonious balance of nature and structure.

There is another road besides San Marcos Pass that connects our front country with the Santa Ynez Valley. North Refugio Road has a magical feeling. I spent the day with the cows, butterflies and the lady bugs. Down by the bubbling brook below the the ancient moss covered trees I thought I might of seen one or two fairies.

The wind usually picks up in the afternoon out on the wharf. Many times when I have been out there painting, it will die down just before sunset and theres a perfect 1/2 hour and the view looks and feels like this.

In the middle of Winter I find myself in the perfect spot at 9 am. No wind and an amazing view with my feet in the sand. Thats the Coral Casino at the point. Rincon Mountain is the blue lump beyond.
